Transgenerational Transmission of traumatic Experiences
Background
The transmission of psychological effects of traumatic experiences onto following generations has been increaslingly discussed in recent years. Alongside the results of traumatizing events, ways of upbringing and communication about what has been experienced are considered as factors influencing the transgenerational transmission of traumatic experiences.
The bzfo is undertaking a study of the phenomena of transgenerational transmission of traumatic experiences in Cambodia. For this study around 800 survivors of the Khmer Rouge regime and their now adult children in a number of provinces in Cambodia were interviewed.
A further aim of this project is the assessment of available information about the Khmer Rouge regime and its background in both generations.
